Hugo Finalist Announced!

The Hugo Finalists have just been announced! I've been looking forward to this for a while, both because I plan on being in Montreal for WorldCon and because... well, I am in my second year of eligibility for a John W. Campbell Award. And, friends, I'm on the list!

The John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer

Aliette de Bodard*
David Anthony Durham*
Felix Gilman
Tony Pi*
Gord Sellar*

* Means second (and last) year of eligibility.

You can check out the entire list at the AnticipationSF Website, or see more about the awards at Writeropia.

I'll say more about the nominees etc in future, but right now I will go and do a silly dance. (That's the only kind I can manage these days anyway.)

Hi Marjorie!

Thank you. I'm very happy about it. Are you going to be at Anticipation? If so, I'll look forward to seeing you there. But if not there... then somewhere!

-David.

Good on you, sir. Exciting stuff.

I hope you'll still talk to us non-published wastrels now that you are a Big Famous Writer Guy. ;)

Of course. Didn't you just offer to take me to dinner? No way I'll look away from that anytime soon.

(Oh, and I'll also never forget my wastrel days...)

Mary,

We should talk about what other certainties you have about the future, then. I trust you. Tell me...

Allison,

I see know that the Dark Side is powerful. So glad to have joined it.

And the Pop-Fic/Stonecoast crowd is honored to have played a part in your seduction, however minor (at least I am...can't speak for the rest of those jokers).

If you don't win it, I'm gonna seriously have to thrown down with somebody, is all I'm sayin'.

Allison,

Wait, can I edit myself?

"I see NOW that the Dark Side is powerful..."

That's what I get for talking in a silly Darth Vadar voice as I typed.

Colleen,

Though part of me would welcome seeing you throw down with somebody, I'm going to hope we don't have to go that route.

If it makes you feel any better, I had to look at your post a couple times before I figured out what was off about it.

Of course, thinking of you speaking in a Darth Vader voice made up for it entirely.

Yes, it's "VadEr." With an "e."
GOD, David--get with it!

I'm not at my best this morning.

(Hangs head in mock shame... Holds expression for several seconds, and then can't help but grin devilishly...)

Awesome! Congrats (not surprised though you totally deserve it).

Hey, some days are Darth Vader days, others are just Dark Helmet days.

Either way, may the Schwartz be with you.

Hugo... Hugo...

Seems to me there was a guy around Paname who wrote some books quite famous, like "Les Misérables" or "Notre-Dame de Paris".

You get the Hugo and I'll call you Vic instead of Dave !

Best from France and hello to all your friends,

Etan
